The gym has recentlly been refurbished and is air conditioned, well lit and is fitted out with the best and up to date equipment available. I have a Life Fitness treadmill, cross trainer, recumbent bike and upright bike. I also have a Concept 2 rower, several benches, swish balls, light and heavy crome dumbbells, barbells, medicine balls, a trampoline, leg curl and leg bicep machines, boxing pads and mits plus much more equipment to keep you motivated and fit. The gymnasium is equipped with shower and changing facilities, it will also support wheelchair access.
I also have a hi tech music system with a very large variety of cd’s.
At the first session, a full fitness assessment is carried out, to focus in on the goals of the client. We sit down as a team and plan daily, monthly and yearly goals. The client’s blood pressure and weight is recorded. Toning, more strength, fat loss, increased power, sculpting of certain body parts, core stability, flexibility plus many more areas are covered in my fitness training programmes. All systems of the body i.e. Aerobic, Anaerobic and Phosghgen are explained and stimulated. Fitness goals are also achieved through pushing and pulling movements using weights. The benefits of Isometric training are also explained.
I have many forms of fitness testing modules for the client to use. Fitness testing could comprise of Personal Best Achievements, for example running on the treadmill recording speed and distance. Another form of testing is Power Surges on the Concept 2 rowing machine, again recording speed and distance. There are also Ultra Fitness Challenges, which consist of three parts. Firstly there is rowing, then cycling and finally running. All times are then added up to give a total time for all three elements. Also Press Up and Sit Up tests and flexibility tests with the use of a new flexibility board are now available.
How I motivate my clients
On arrival at the gym, the client is met and greeted by me. There is a changing room facility available for those who prefer to change when they arrive. We take a few minutes at the start of the session to plan the whole training session. Clear goals are set and agreed to by myself and the client. The client and I are clearly motivated from the first five minutes of the session and we have clear goals and a set programme to adhere to. By the end of the session, both myself and the client are really happy and feel elated when all the pre-set goals have been achieved. All clients are encouraged to wear Polar heart monitors and watches during the training sessions, so that we can see how their hearts are performing at all times. The heart rate monitor and watch will also indicate how many calories are being burned during the session. In addition to the traditional training methods, I am also very creative in setting up challenges, so that the client remains motivated at all times. For example, I have virtual walking/jogging from Land’s End to John O’Groats, walking up Snowdon and rowing to France and back! All challenges are set and achieved using the gymnasium equipment.
Food diaries and nutrition analysis
All clients are encouraged to keep clear and detailed food diaries whatever the short term or outcome goal is. From the diaries we can agree on making improvements in your daily and weekly eating plan. We need to see what you are eating and what times of the day you are eating. The total daily intake of calories has to be agreed between us and also the quality of the calories has to be correct, to obtain a daily balanced intake of nutritious foods, vitamins and minerals.
Complimentary water, tea and coffee is offered to all my clients. Also there are isotonic sports drinks, protein shakes and high nutrition energy flap jacks are offered for purchase.
